Getting started
- Move PressSpeak to Applications.Drag PressSpeak from the disk image into the Applications folder and open it from there. macOS ties permissions to the app’s location, so a copy left on the disk image cannot keep them and dictation stays switched off.
- Grant Microphone access.Open Privacy in PressSpeak and choose Continue, then make your decision in the system prompt.
- Allow global dictation and insertion.Grant Accessibility so PressSpeak can recognize your shortcut and paste the completed transcript into the app you were using. PressSpeak does not request Input Monitoring.
- Choose your shortcut.Open Dictation, click the shortcut control, then press a modified key combination or function key. F19 always remains available.
- Dictate and continue.Focus your destination app, press your shortcut, speak, then press it again. The completed text appears at the cursor.

The shortcut does not respond
First check that PressSpeak is in your Applications folder rather than running from the disk image, because macOS will not let a copy there keep its permissions. Then confirm PressSpeak is enabled in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and quit and reopen it. Another app may own the same shortcut, so choose a different modified key combination or use F19.
Text is copied but not inserted
macOS asks separately for permission to send keystrokes, so Accessibility can be enabled while PressSpeak still cannot press Command-V for you. Open PressSpeak and use the setup card to request what is missing, and make sure the app is in Applications rather than on the disk image. The transcript stays on the clipboard, so Command-V is always available as a fallback.
The microphone is unavailable
Enable PressSpeak in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone, then quit and reopen the app.
Transcription
PressSpeak includes its multilingual model. It works offline, detects the language of each recording automatically, and needs no model download or language setting.
If a name or technical term is frequently wrong, add it under Dictation → Names and vocabulary.
Updates
PressSpeak includes a seven-day no-card trial. After the trial, it is a $19.99 one-time purchase with no subscription or automatic renewal. Stripe sends the receipt to the email address used at checkout.
After checkout, return to PressSpeak. The app verifies the payment automatically; you can also choose Check purchase in the access card. If you need a fresh installer later, download it from this site. Your normal permissions and settings should remain in place when you replace the app in Applications.
Customers who purchased the earlier Mac App Store edition keep their Apple purchase and can still redownload that edition from purchase history.
